Classroom Management

A color card system is used. Each child begins with an orange card. If at the end of the day they still have an orange card, then they have had an exceptionally good day. The progression of cards is like a traffic signal: green, yellow, and red. Please look for the weekly color card form on Fridays to see how your child is doing.

Curriculum and Areas of Special Interest

In math we concentrate on multiplication and division. Also we make the transition from manuscript to cursive.

We will continue with our Units of Inquiry in our literacy area. We will have Reader's Workshop, Guided Reading, and Writer's Workshop. If you choose, you may purchase a writer's notebook that has a more personal and unique feeling for their writing. Please make sure that the pages are bound in the notebook or composition journal. If you choose to purchase one on your own, please do this by Monday, September 11.

We are fortunate in third grade to do some team teaching. Teachers and students gain wonderful experiences in Social Studies, Science, and P.E.. Each third grader gets the wavlue of learning from other third grade teachers.

This year will be a great one!
