Happy
February, the month of giving hugs and love to those who
surround us. Celebrate life, each other and enjoy what
each day brings!
Our
instructional practice continues to be reflected upon and
refined to meet the needs of our students. Each of the
grade levels work together to establish instructional plans
to support individual student performance. Our focus
remains on the core subject areas: Literacy, Math and
Science. Social Studies and the Arts are integrated
into these core subject areas. Our professional
obligation is to teach to the State Standards; therefore our
planning is around creating lessons in support of the
standards and student academic growth. As a staff we
also acknowledge the importance of developing lifelong
character skills and a passion for wanting to learn.
As you all know we continue to work on our Lifeskills
everyday. The P.A.W.S. (Positive Attitudes Will
Succeed) Club is a success, with the children writing about
character standards and if needed, revisiting their
character pledges they made with their classes.
Sandburg is
such a special place for learning and caring about each
other. Be watching for announcements for upcoming
events such as: Dad’s Club, Principal’s Budget Chat, ASB
Valentine events, and Beautification Projects.
We are
always looking for people who are interested in writing
grants for the school. We are especially looking for
grants in support of technology. Our greatest needs
are new computers (laptops and PCs) . . . our computers are
old and in need of repair. The school does not have
the funding to support twenty first century materials (How
sad is that?) therefore we need our community to help write
grants. There is money out there for schools to
receive; we just need all of you to help us find it.
Tardies
. . . we are having excessive tardies daily. School
begins promptly at 7:45, it’s very important you make sure
your child arrives on time. We have a new campaign
going at the school called: Be on Time, Every Minute Counts!
Please, please, please help us give your children the best
chance to learn by getting them to school on time.
After
school pick-up is also an issue for some families.
Picking your child up from school on time is important as
well. It is a safety issue . . . we do not allow the
children to stay out in front of the school more than 15
minutes after school gets out. If you are late for
pick-up please call the office. Also, any child who is
not picked up on time will be waiting in the school office
and will not be released until the person who picks him/her
up comes into the office to sign out in our late pick-up
log.
Area 2
Parent Forum is a special informal chat with Superintendent
Carl Cohn, Area 2 Superintendent Chelsea Smith and Area
Superintendent Nellie Myers for parents and guardians only.
The event will be on Tuesday, February 20, from 6:15 pm -
8:30 pm at Wangenheim Middle School (9230 Gold Coast Drive)
in the auditorium. Childcare and translation services
will be provided. Please see our website for more
details.
