Recycle!
Recycle! Recycle!
Sandburg Tigers, are you ready
to begin the plastic bag recycling challenge and win money
for our school AND a big celebration assembly put on by Wal-Mart?
Sandburg is taking part in the
Wal-Mart recycling challenge. All you need to do is
bring in ALL your plastic bags (grocery bags, produce bags,
clothing store bags, etc.) and drop them in the large bins
you will find in front of the office on campus. REMIND
your parents NOT to throw away plastic bags and NOT to
recycle them in their blue recycling bins (San Diego does
not have an operation yet for recycling plastic bags, which
is why they are returned back to the store you received them
from!). PLEASE bring them to school!
Each month we will deposit them
into our Sandburg account at Wal-Mart, and when the
challenge ends on March 30, 2007, the winning school with the
most bags collected will be announced.
Sandburg will receive money for
each bin we fill, even if we don't win the challenge!
So.... let's help our environment and school and RECYCLE
HERE AT SANDBURG!!!

May 2007 update:
Congratulations Sandburg for doing an excellent job
recycling your plastic bags. Our school did not collect the
most bags, but
we did earn Sandburg $505!!
More importantly,
you are all on your way to becoming life-long environment
savers. Remember to ALWAYS recycle and do your part in
helping our Earth!! The challenge has ended, however, we
will continue to collect bags for next year... so keep
bringing them in to give us a jump start for the school year
2007-2008. Although Sandburg is earning money for collecting
plastic bags, the larger goal is to help our environment.
When possible, conserve and conserve! Vons (our eScrip
partner) has black reusable tote bags for sale for 99 cents
so you don't have to use plastic bags when at all possible.
