Purpose: Walter
Porter Elementary will ease overcrowding in the former Kennedy
Elementary
and
Knox Elementary attendance area.

Name of new
school: The name "Walter Porter" was
selected by the community in honor of a much-admired leader who served
as president of the local NAACP, helped start the annual Martin Luther
King parade and was founding Dean of Student Services for the
Educational Cultural Complex in southeast San Diego.

features: 26 classrooms, 44,345
square feet of facilities,
6.3 acres, 65 parking spaces, 67 new trees, hundreds of shrubs, a
joint-use
field for soccer and baseball, multipurpose room, library/media center,
lunch
shelter, elevator and accessibility features, kitchen, faculty lounge,
workroom
and administrative center. The campus will consist of all modular
(factory-built) buildings with stucco exterior and metal roofing. |
