Homework Plan

Why?

The homework will be a review or an extension of the concepts studied in the classroom. The children should almost always be able to complete the work themselves.

When?

Students will receive daily homework. Monday through Thursday. Occasionally, there will be homework that spills over to the weekend, but not often.

Contents:

Typically, the homework includes spelling, math, writing, and reading assignments. The entire homework time should not take any more than an hour.

·        A book report will be assigned most months, beginning in October.

·        Home reading should be at least 20 minutes per night, and a home reading log will be due on a weekly basis. A reading log will be distributed at the beginning of each week.

·        Students should practice basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division – whatever the individual student is ready to work on) for at least 5 minutes per night.

·        There is a spelling test on the last school day of each week. Students should review these words throughout the week, not just Thurs. evening/Fri. morning.

Tests:

There will be at least two days’ notice of an upcoming math, science, health, or social studies test. When appropriate, I will send home a study guide or other suggestion for study. Math tests will be given at the end of each chapter or unit.
