Dear Parents,
I am pleased to welcome you and your child to my class. This promises to be a challenging and rewarding year. I feel strongly that children receive the best education when the teacher and parents work together.
The fifth grade curriculum covers the following subjects: literacy, math, social studies, science, fine arts, and physical education. I recommend that you become familiar with all the textbooks used in class. The textbooks will be coming home the first week of school for the students to put book covers on them.
In order for your child to experience success in the classroom, daily attendance is very important Please arrange to pick up work if your child will be absent longer than two days.
I have devixed a set of classroom rules to ensure a pleasant learning environment for every students. They are:
One of the most important skills that your child will learn this year is how to organize school materials. Since your child must carry materials to and from school, as well as maintain an organized work space in class, I am requesting that each child use a standard folder with pockets. This will help them organize and store important school papers and transport homework.
Each day your child will receive a homework assignment, except on Friday which will be reserved for makeup or incomplete work. Students are responsible for recording homework assignments and returning work the following school day. I view home work as an opportunity for students to practice concepts and skills learned in class. I recommend approximately 30 minutes of homework each day. I hope that you will encourage your son or daughter to complete every assignment to the best of their ability.
By the end of the second week of school I would like for all students to have available the following school supplies:
And as an option
These supplies will assist your child with developing organizational skills.
I am looking forward to meeting you. Please contact me with any ideas, questions or concerns you may have.
