Goals:
To achieve competence in reading and understanding a variety of literature. To enjoy and get involved in the stories by use of a response journal.
Objectives:
Please have your child select from a variety of reading response questions or reflections. Record the book title and time spent reading each day.
Suggested Method:
Review any difficult vocabulary from previous day. Use a dictionary if possible.
Read 20 minutes each night.
Select a reading response question and write for 10 - 15 minutes.
When a book is completed, fill out the title, author, and genre on the Completed Book Log.
Reading Response:
Write your personal feelings about the story. Give examples from the book.
Write predictions about what might happen next. Tell why you think that. Use evidence from the story.
Copy a favorite passage and tell why it is special to you.
Write a brief summary of the story part you read today. Tell what story element it contributes toward(setting, problem,characters, etc).
Describe central characters and the problems they face or the changes they have made.
Find some idioms, metaphors, similes or other special writers techniques and explain how they were used and what they mean in the story.
Find some Golden Lines (special descriptive phrases that make the story come alive) and tell what they mean or what makes them special.
