Welcome to Jackson Elementary's Parent information Portal

There are many opportunities for parents to get involved here at Jackson Elementary.  With our Family Fridays, special events, fundraising, parent volunteer program, School Governance Team, and School Site Council, parents are given the opportunity to participate and become a part of their child's education.  We encourage all parents to come and visit the office staff, and ask about what types of involvement are available, and which work best for you and your schedule.

Family Fridays

Family Fridays began when the District implemented it's Family Friendly Schools initiative.  This initiative was created to make sure that all of our schools in the San Diego Unified School District are places where families and community members feel welcomed, informed, and included. Students, parents and teachers all stand to benefit when families are engaged and connected with their schools.  Students do better in school, improve their attendance and are happier with the school climate.  Parents see increased student achievement, and develop positive and productive relationships with school staff. They have increased confidence in the school and with staff and instructional programs.  Teachers see increased student achievement, and increased parental support. They are active partners in the improved school climate.

The first Friday of each month parents are invited to come to school in the morning with their child/children.  From 8-8:30 a.m. parents are invited into their child's classroom to read with them and participate in morning activities.  Parents are then invited to the auditorium for coffee, pastries, and one of numerous presentations that supply resources to the parents.  Some examples are instructional support resources that can be utilized at home, medical and mental health resources, providing medical, dental, and mental health insurance program options and help with the application process, school safety and safety at home, as well as various other topics.  A Spanish translator is available for all Family Friday presentations.  If you are needing translation into another language, we will do all we can to provide it for you.  Our next Family Friday is scheduled for February 1, so if you haven't had the chance to attend yet, please come and enjoy.  If you have attended previous Family Fridays, we look forward to seeing you again.
 

Parent Volunteer Program

Our parent volunteers are essential to us here at Jackson, and have become an important part of our daily operations.  Our parent volunteers are the best out there, and we appreciate them all so very much for the contributions they continually make to our school on a daily basis.  Whether it's making copies, doing specialized projects for the individual teaching staff, helping with fundraising efforts, creating the most awesome haunted house for our Fall Festival, helping with translation, filling in when Jackson's office is short-staffed...we can always count on them to do it all in the most friendly and efficient manner.

To sign up to become a parent volunteer, stop by the Main Office and ask for a parent volunteer application.  In order to work as a parent volunteer, the District requires a current TB test.  Anyone that does not have one, TB tests can be administrated by our school nurse in our Main Office.
