Welcome to Jackson Elementary School. We are located near the corner of 54th and El Cajon Blvd. in a thriving, exciting area of San Diego. Our students bring to the school a wealth of cultural backgrounds---over 80% speak a language other than English, including Cambodian, Vietnamese, Spanish, Somali, and the Sudanese language Nuer.
We are proud of the accomplishment of Jackson students, staff, and parents.
Over the past five years, students' academic performance has improved, as indicated by standardized test scores. The staff at Jackson continues to implement research-based instructional practices. Our parents are involved in their children's education and support their studies. The students work very hard to meet their academic objectives.

Instruction and Curriculum
The teaching at Jackson Elementary is focused on literacy and math. We have created school-wide units of Instruction and Curriculum study that are aligned to state standards and provide the highest quality instruction. All teachers receive intensive training on all aspects of the reading process. They learn to set highly individualized reading goals and teach the students based on their academic needs. All students are required to participate fully in the reading and math programs, and they receive homework that supports our emphasis.

Opportunities for Parent and Community Involvement
There are many opportunities for parents to be involved at their children's school site (for example, governance committees, special events, fundraising events, parent organizations, and in classrooms). We also encourage parents to support their children at home by discussing their education expectations and creating a positive homework and learning environment.
We at Jackson are committed to obtaining community resources for our schools and invite all constituencies to assist us in the education of our students. Jackson offers parent training classes. Parents are encouraged to attend Family Fridays and governance meetings. If you want to get involved contact Minerva Johnson at
