Good Health Habits

1. Eat healthy food: Golden Hill Elementary offers 2 free meals a day. Encourage your child to take advantage of these meals and to eat a variety of the foods offered. Breakfast is the most important meal so get to school on time for breakfast.
2. Exercise every day: Children should be getting at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day. Exercise has been shown to improve academic performance, self-concept and mental health.
3. Get a good night’s sleep: Children from age 5-12 need 10-11 hours of sleep each night. Not getting enough sleep can cause mood swings, behavioral problems and problems with your child’s thought processes. All of these can impact their learning. Set up a bedtime routine so your child gets enough sleep to perform their best at school.
4. Brush teeth twice a daily: Children should brush their teeth at least twice daily. Teeth should be flossed daily. Diet is very important to prevent tooth decay. If oral hygiene is started young, costly trips to the dentists can be avoided and…..everyone loves a beautiful smile!
5. Daily grooming: It is important to maintain cleanliness for health and self esteem. Make sure your child is bathing daily, wears clean clothes and keeps their hair clean, neat and brushed.

How to Register

Starting May 8, 2008 you can come to Holmes Office and pick up a Pre-registration packet for residents or choice form packets throughout the school year from the hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. You may turn in completed forms with all the below requirements before June 16. The office is closed during the summer and will re-open August 25, 2008. We cannot register your child without the following:

• Legal birth certificate - not a hospital form (child must be 5 on or before December 2, 2008)
• Proof of residency (utility bill, lease, etc.)

You must meet all of these registration requirements - no exceptions!

Complete immunization record

• Polio -4 doses, but 3 are enought if last dose was given after age 4
• DTP -5 doses, but 4 are enough if last dose was given after age 4
• MMR- 2 doses - both given on or after age 1
• Hepatitis B - 3 doses
• Varicella (Chicken Pox) - must have been given the dose, or had the virus.
• Tetanus containing vaccine (Td) if the last one is older than five years is recommended.

NEW requirement - 6th Graders need to begin their Hepatitis B series 3 shots given over a four month period to enter 7th grade! A second mumps, measles and rubella (MMR) is also required.
