Print materials are selected to align with district literacy efforts and K-6 standards; however, the collection is open to all SDCS teachers to allow them to meet the needs of individual classrooms. All schools have access to Horizon, the online public access catalog, which provides access to all instructional materials in the curriculum library collection. IMC Multimedia Resources, K-12 The IMC multimedia collection provides instructional materials and equipment as resources for all SDCS teachers. New items are purchased to align with the subject-area adoptions. The collection includes read-alongs, videos, computer software and CD-ROMS, CDs, art and study prints, as well as exhibits. All schools have access to Horizon, the online public access catalog, which provides access to all the instructional materials in the multimedia collection. IMC Professional Library A professional library collection, including books and professional development videotapes is also available at the IMC. This collection is available to SDCS employees and student teachers. IMC Recommended Books The IMC Recommended Booklist is a resource compiled by certificated teachers and library media teachers serving as reviewers of library books for the current school year. Schools that are looking for the best books of the year may use these lists to purchase books for their school and classroom libraries. Lists are released 3 to 4 times per year for K-6 and 6-12 interest levels. Each elementary and middle school has the opportunity to name 2 reviewers. Designated reviewers receive training in the review process with an emphasis on reviewing books for state legal compliance and correlation to curriculum standards. By participating in this program, reviewers add cataloged books to their site libraries at no charge to the school. With tighter budgets, this is an excellent way to provide wonderful new books for our students, while reading books “hot off the press.” If you are interested in participating in the Book Review Program, please contact Martha Karanopoulos at (858) 496-8439 or mkaranopoulos@sandi.net.
California Young Reader Award Books The California Young Reader Medal program encourages recreational reading of popular literature among the young people of our state. Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal. Ballots are due April 1. http://www.californiayoungreadermedal.org/ Online Resources Elementary (For Remote Access Contact your School Library Staff) Middle School (For Remote Access Contact your School Library Staff) High School (For Remote Access Contact your School Library Staff) Horizon iPAC The iPAC is a web-based search program that allows patrons to search for books and other instructional materials.
